Inaugural Meeting – 19 September 2016
The first meeting of the St George’s ILD Support Group took place at St George’s hospital on 19 September 2016 between 16:30 – 18:00.
The meeting was organised and opened by Dr Dimitra Nikoletou, Associate Professor, Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education (Joint Faculty between St George’s and Kingston University). Dimitra welcomed all attendees including Ruth Sabella, IPF Project Manager from the British Lung Foundation (BLF) who updated the group on the work of the BLF and specifically in relation to ILD. The group was then introduced to Claire Emery, who took participants through a practical session demonstrating a series of specific yoga breathing techniques to help patients with ILD.
Our first St George’s ILD Support Group meeting coincided with the first day of ‘World IPF week 2016‘. The World IPF week was created in 2012 as an initiative to raise awareness across the globe that Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF), one of the many types of ILD, is a rare and poorly understood lung disease.
The group plans to hold a series of other practical and information exchange sessions in forthcoming meetings. For further information about the group and for dates of forthcoming meetings please visit the support group’s website at https://ildgroupstgeorges.com.
